Fair enough question. Yes, I suppose it is a cultural thing. I grew up on the high plains, where guns were ubiquitous. The image of a rifle in the back window wasn't a stereotype, it was simply commonplace. Most of our dads had been in the service and pretty much everyone owned at least a couple of guns. We did a bit of hunting and plinking.
Anyway, I've picked up a number of guns over the years. I don't hunt anymore, but I do enjoy taking them out and shooting at targets from time to time. I also enjoy the connection with history; my favorite guns are those that are historically significant. I have no interest in the "black" (AR-15 style) guns that everyone seems infatuated with these days, however.
I have three stepsons. One is a self-described gun nut, one has some interest and the third has no interest in guns whatsoever.
