I guess most of the responders presume everyone knows,so why say it, the reason the second amendment is important enough to be in the constitution. It is, or at least in the past, was, impossible to impose a tyrannical government on well armed citizens. The first thing would be tyrants do is disarm citizens. The rest is easy. I seriously doubt that there are many people in the USA today who could define tyranny, let alone revolt against it. I think we may have passed the tipping point and a majority of the people believe the purpose of government is to take care of them.
