My 8000# Ramsey wrecker winch that we mounted in the gooseneck frame is rated 21,000lb line pull or 8,000 dead lift. Not all mfrs use the same rating system that was used years ago, be careful when buying something. We mounted 2-1100 amp truck batteries in the gooseneck that get charged off of the tow vehicle when in tow, so they're always charged when you need them. I agree, snatch block is a must have for doubling your cable strength. It can also be used for redirecting your angle of pull by chaining the block to one side of your trailer, tree, deadman, etc when pulling around an obstacle or getting the vehicle lined up with the ramps/beavertail. Fairlead roller properly adjusted is crucial to cable life. I have several winches that I thought about using but this one was most practical for this aplication. I agree with "lots of cable theory".

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
