After the first day, you'll have the backhoe figured out pretty well. But it's still a 1 at a time show. Go count stumps and multiply by 10 to 15 minutes apiece and add it up... (you've got to fill the holes in too.) Make sure the backhoe has ROPS on it...

The idea of pulling them out isn't a bad one, but it does take time... especially with only 1 person working !

The other downside on yanking stumps is that it does expose you to some real danger from both the tractor and the rigging. If you're not experienced and are not using proper 'logging' equipment, you multiply the risk. (lots)

Lots of people have been hurt or killed in the logging business... relatively few are actulally killed anymore during the timber falling..

Most injuries happen when pulling or dragging stuff. (skidding or yarding) (I work for a timber company)

For stumps of the caliber you're talking about
I'd rent a crawler and doze them out with a brush rake. When you're done with the stumps, then you can use the rippers and blade to backfill the holes and prepare your pasture. (You'll have lots of fun running the crawler too...)

Whatever you do, think about safety !
