The factory bakelite on my JD 4010 steering wheel was pretty beat up, cracks running every which way, and a few larger chunks just gone when I got it. But the wheel was straight and undamaged otherwise. Thanks to some of the experienced posters on this site, I used a bunch of the JB Weld epoxy on it (overfill,file/sand/grind back to the right shape) and got the thing back to a relatively smooth surface, all missing parts built back up and cracks filled. Took a rattle can of Plastic Tool Handle stuff and finished it off and the durn things looks brand new. Took a long darn time, too darn long; had to clean up the cracks and take all loose stuff off with a dremel tool. Not sure if most folks would want to spend the time and effort it took to fill and file and sand the thing back to it's original shape as I did, but it can be done. Cost: price of two pkgs of JB Weld, a spray can of tool handle plastic, and more time than I will ever admit to. Test will be how many years the repairs stay in place. Looks pretty good now though after the fight is over!
