The bigger the tractor the better. If somebody else is driving it the worst that will happen to you is that you will get bored. However, if you choose to proceed... Hook high on the stump and low on the tractor. Not the other way. Taking the time to dig down on the side opposite the tractor and cutting the roots with an axe will help. A rolling start (not drag racing) can help but be sure you disengage that clutch when the chain tightens up. Be real, real, real damn sure the chain (and it should be a chain and not anything that stretches and stores (thus being able to release rapidly) energy) won't break. Too strong is way better than not strong enough. You can do this with a SA if you work at it and be careful. But by the time you get to the third one, getting somebody in there with a small to medium crawler is gonna look cheaper and more attractive than you thought when you started.
