Hi - I don't know where all the oak comes from in an affordable grade - would love to have some. Up here on the west coast, we use pressure-treated Douglas fir. That can't cost like oak, and is as strong as you should need within the trailer load limit. It will last for the better part of 10 years in this wet climate - mid-west may be twice that. Pine in this climate is about a 2-year wood, most utility poles we see are red cedar, which is not strong enough for hauling anyting you don't want to fall through.
