good snowstorm going on here in north central il,roads all icy with snow on em, driving home from the body shop, 03 tahoe down in the ditch, 2 other vehicles stopped, quite a few young kids standing on the road, so i stop to help. tahoe was down deep and caught in the vee of the ditch. young guy there had a nylon tow strap hooked up to it and a lenght of 5/16 chain to his 2wd pickup, couldnt pull it out. i looked at the situation, told him i'd call the shop and send a wrecker to winch em out. no problem, no damage. he says no he can get it out. lady there also with an 08 suburban 4wd, he talks her in to trying to pull the tahoe out. she gets out of the suburban afraid to try and he says he'll do it. i am already seeing a disaster in the works. told the kid, hook up, get the slack out of the chain and gently back up, while the tahoe (also 4wd) moves slowly out. make my way just about to the tahoe to tell the driver to creep the truck out when junior in the suburban guns the truck in reverse, slack in the chain, bang, chain snaps, flys back to the suburban, breaks the headlight, dented the snot out of the hood and end of the chain broke the winshield, right at the steering wheel. nylon strap flys back and almost hits me. i came unglued, started hollering at him as i make my way up the ditch. he hops out of the suburban and gets in his pickup and takes off. did prolly 1000 dollars damage to the suburban, fortunately nobody got hurt, there were still people standing there when he gunned the truck. so, i get to call for a wrecker and stayed with the drivers till the tow trucks showed up. truly amazing how stupid some people can be.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
