When I was a kid, our holiday traditions usually had to do with bundling up the kids and packing off to some relative's house. Thanksgiving was always at my great-grandfather's house, because it was a big house and his birthday was in late November. Christmas Eve was spent with Dad's parents, and Christmas Day was spent with Mom's parents.
When I got married and had kids of my own,I decided that our Christmas tradition would begin at OUR house. I really don't have memories from my chidhood of a Christmas morning spent opening presents at home but once...and I decided my kids were gonna have something more than that to remember.
So my son and his finace were in from Georgia over the weekend, and we got together at my daughter's house. My daughter and her family will be at our house for Christmas Eve afternoon. I really don't have plans to be anywhere but my own home on Christmas Day. And on Sunday the 28th my sister and her husband wil be in from Colorado, my brother and his wife will be in from Indianapolis, and we'll all get together with Mom and our 97-year-old grandmother at the farm. Then Grandma will leave with my uncle and his wife to spend the winter in Texas in their camper trailer, as they have for the past 20 years or so.
