This is a little bit of speculation on my part, since I haven't been talking to a dealer, but I have been paying lots of attention to the half ton truck ads for quite some time now. The ones that have the heavy discounts are the ones that have optional equipment, the base "work trucks" have only been increasing in sticker price with each passing year, and it looks like those they can't discount very much beyond three or four thousand if your talking about a truck with no options.
Right now Berlin City in Gorham New Hampshire is advertising a leftover 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 4x4, Duramax Diesel, crew cab, power windows/locks, cruise, etc. . . MSRP is $42,797, but there is a $10,000 factory rebate, a $500 commercial rebate, and a Berlin City discount of $4,298, for a grand total of $14,798 off from MSRP. That truck can be yours for an advertised $27,999

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
