I agree that people are scared. The financial experts are agreeing the economy will only continue to get worse well into 2009, and not get any better until possibly 2010. Thats a long time. Better save what you can, and don't buy what you don't need. If you got a job, then you'd better hang onto it if you can, because getting another one might be next to impossible. On the other hand, taking my advice will only continue to worsen our consumer driven economy.
The stuff on Tractorhouse? I got a feeling the newer big equipment is still selling, as ag prices are still decent, but probably the hobby farm equipment is sitting. The disposable income is gone. I think people are hanging onto things if they can, because in order to sell something in this economy, they would have to sell it really cheap to generate any interest.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
