I have a 5.5 acre Christmas tree farm that will begin harvesting trees in 2009.I have owned this property since 2002 and plant a rotational crop every spring and fall.I have endeavored from the beginning to make a profit from this venture.It has indeed cost me alot of money since I purchased the land,equipment,barn,and the day to day operating expenses that are entailed with this endeavor.However,Im very happy that I chose to pursue this as a part time venture because it gives me a reason to own a tractor and lets me clear my mind from my professional medical responsibilities.This however is a farm and reqires alot of year around work that many do not appreciate.I guess you have to do it to understand.I believe that a farm can come in many shapes and sizes.I hope more people will try their hand at part-time farming for the rewards that can be obtained.
