dave2, 200cs has a very good plan. When she is in Waco she is just a short distance away from Clifton. Also is Waco is the Dr. Pepper museumn. Most people don't realize that it takes almost 16 hours (75mph) to drive from one side of Texas to the other(n to s or e to w). Houston to Dallas/Ft. Worth is about 4 hours same as the Houston to San Antonio drive. Most of the real beauty in Texas is in the small towns and the rural areas. Great difference in all the parts of Texas but much too much driving to do in just a week.
Houston is just like any other big city in the US, be alert at all times, don't leave anything in plain sight in the car while it is parked, park in a well lighted, active area.
Last but not least, enjoy the food. Tex-Mex, BBQ, seafood(Houston is a major seaport)and a good steak, all things not to be missed.
I live on the west side of Houston in Katy and have a small ranch in Schulenburg, about 90 mi west of Houston on the way to San Antonio.
