Most people don't realize that it takes almost 16 hours (75mph) to drive from one side of Texas to the other(n to s or e to w). Houston to Dallas/Ft. Worth is about 4 hours same as the Houston to San Antonio drive. Most of the real beauty in Texas is in the small towns and the rural areas. Great difference in all the parts of Texas but much too much driving to do in just a week.
Houston is just like any other big city in the US, be alert at all times, don't leave anything in plain sight in the car while it is parked, park in a well lighted, active area.
