what size rake and tedder are you pulling? Most any of the 40 hp tractors or even the older 30 hp should do the job. As someone said hydraulic pressure is a factor although I have pulled our rake with a 720 JD LPG and it actually works to rake faster than our newer tractors do.
pick a brand you like and something that you can get parts for easy and close and go from there.
77 Oliver is good. A B john Deere. maybe a 300 400 series farmall. red belly fords like the 800-900 series or newer are good. heck any brand will work.
I'm kinda partial to Deere and Oliver, We got a 3020 LPG for $3500 this summer and use the heck out of it. Real easy on fuel believe it or not for LP and since it's alot cheaper than diesel now....
Gas 3020's seem to use more fuel or the one we have does. If you don't have alot of hills a narrow front turns real short and usually never have to hit the brakes.
