To everyone that responded to my question thanks. To answer some of your questions and give you an idea of what I am looking at I will say the following. The block in question is on an 8N tractor. The crack is aproxamatly 12"in length. It runsanywhere from 1" to 1/4" below the head gasket then curves down sharply at the ends.It leaks colant in one 3" area. Being so close to the top of the block am I wasting my time to try welding? perhaps grinding out the crack and using epoxy would be a better choice, or tosing the thing? thanks for all the helpfull info. ole frank.

The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
