The JD 42 Combine is the PTO / Pull-type version of the JD 40 Combine. The 42 was produced from 1961 till 1966. It was one of the Hi Lo Series. It handled a 9' platform or 2 row corn head. It had a 22" x 24.675" Cylinder, as did the 40, 3 straw walkers, and a 35 bu grain tank. As near as I can tell the lineage of JD pull types goes like this: Before 1946 all models were pull type: 1,2,3,5,5A,6,7,7A,9,10,11,12,10A,11A,12A & 17(pre-war) Model Years in production 17(post-war) 1945-1948 12A(post-war) 1946-1952 65 1949-1959 25 1952-1955 30 1956-1960 42 1961-1966 The later pull-types were the 6601, 7721, 9501, ?? (any newer) This is to the best of my knowledge. Mileage may vary...

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”.
