About 6 months ago, there was some news report that the govt had already auctioned off $200 to $300 million (or maybe it was $20 to $30 billion) of the TV broadcast bands to the cell phone companies. Meanwhile the govt talking heads tell us "poor folk" that the govt needed the airwaves for homeland security communications. What a crock of $hit!!
Just follow the money.... Who profits from this huge market change? The cable and satellite TV companies, the TV manufacturers, the digital converter box manufs, the large retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, Circuit City etc. When the TV stations originally gained their license (late 1930's to early 50's) and broadcast frequency, it was determined that certain radio freq bands would be dedicated to the public usage for TV, radio, amateur radio, emergency services, etc. During this last 8 years the FCC has been totally compromised and corrupt, and has done totally what they (support of big business) want. The rights of the US citizens have been badly trampled in the mad rush of businesses salivating and then madly chasing to get more money. We have been fed a bunch of lies...even by PBS!!!
My converter box coupons expired one day before the stock of boxes at Wal Mart became available. We were rejected as "illegal for us to sell you that box with the $40 coupon". I called govt phone number and waited more than 45 minutes for "help". I live in MN, the "help lady" was reading prepared script she didn't understand for someplace in Oregon, and at the end of the speel asked if she answered our question. When I emphatically told her "NO" she got all bent up and told me that she had given me the right answer, but I was just too (ignorant??) to understand. Of course the "help" is contracted out to some company that is making profit from low wage people who know almost nothing about RF or maybe anything else for that matter. Just more business making more money (from our taxes)in this huge scam.
Some neighbors have told me how smart they are by now getting cable or satellite for $29.99/month. But they didn't read the fine print, that is the 3 month "introductry rate" which then automatically goes up to $100/month. One of my daughters and fiancee got caught in that scam, and can't afford to throw $100/month down the rat hole. As they already had cable when the coupons were available, they were not eligible for coupons. So now they are screwed.
Can the new Washington crew straighten this mess out?? I really doubt it, there are too many big $$$ people and companies making huge profit from this move toward "a better picture" for us poor slobs who can't afford to outrageous monthly bills.
This whole thing STINKS!!!! Like a herd of rabid skunks!!!
