Once my boss told me to take his car to inspection.It was a Ford wagon with a 390 and a three speed Hurst shifter on the floor.After leaving the inspection staion I did a burnout and when I hit second the cutch pedal stayed on the floor.I got out and looked and the motor mount had broke allowing th cluth linkage to jump out of place.The motor had to be jacked up to fix it.I started his car in first gear with the starter lurching the car forward.I could upshift but not downshift.Made several lights but then hit traffic on a hill.After several more starts in gear I made it through traffic and back to the shop.I told my boss something just happened to the clutch down at the corner.Meanwhile I had driven far with no clutch.He made the machinist stay late and change his motor mount.He was a real nice guy and I always felt bad about lying to him.Taught me to never beat on someone elses equipment anyhow.At least there was no fire.
