I rebuilt mine with no problem. You certainly need a service manual, and I strongly suggest that you buy a Perkins factory rebuild kit. They can supply exact parts based on the engine serial number. This is a very simple engine, all you need is a good machine shop to hot tank the parts, grind valve seats, pull/replace the sleeves, turn the crank (note: this requires a shop that turns DIESEL cranks! The radii are different than gas engine cranks!!) Also, have a diesel shop test/adjust/repair the injectors. Is your engine direct injection, (injectors on angle in head) should be an AD3-150 engine.
