I understand your concerns with "big brother federal cop" However, the Federal Justice department can (and does) come down hard on Mob figures, very crooked politicians, and other very ruthless figures. Think of it this way: Lets say that Rod B. Of Illinois had all his cronies running the state of Ill and was wealthy to boot. And promised them a cash reward if he received an aquittal for the trial that just happened. (kind of a good ole boy attitude) And the federal government could do nothing about it cause the Illinois state senate voted for the aquittal. I dont know what the FBI could do to him.
I would like to the the US justice department come down like a ton of bricks on the crooks that run the city of Detroit. The school district is a sham, the garbage hauling is a sham and so is the snow plowing. Basically city services in Detroit are very poor and yet the city takes in piles of money every year in taxes---Justice needs to be served.
