Almost saw a spectacular July fireworks show "on the waters" several years ago. A barge was navigating the narrow Cumberland river in Tennessee at night. As was customary, one of the crewmen was manning a spotlight toward the river banks to insure the barge stayed in the channel. He spotted a young couple parked in the moonlight and decided to have a little fun, so he held the spotlight on their car for several minutes.
The parked teenagers finally decided they had endured enough harrassment, so they got out and began shooting Roman Candles toward the barge. The barge crew reacted with yelling, cursing, and finally a loud "Damn, boy - are ya" trying to blow both of us to kingdom come? This here barge is loaded with a highly flammable liquid!"
I guess both parties had a good understanding of the old USA-Russia relationship based on Mutually Assured Distruction. They both ceased and desisted, which I heartily approved of because I was fishing on the opposite bank and had no desire to see the "mother of all explosions".
I guess the moral of the story is that if you are the one sitting on the powder keg, it behooves you to play nice!
