Hopefully, some big outfit will buy up the plants, keep them intact, and use them when it's economically feasible to do so. The energy solution is going to be combinations of technologies- wind and solar electricity, with fossil fuel generation capacity to take up the slack; Ethanol and biodiesel will play the same role- sometimes it pencils out, sometimes it doesn't- so use it when oil-based fuel is high, and it will tend to put a cap on overall motor fuel prices. But the plants have to be owned by someone who doesn't need to have them operating (and making money) all the time in order to survive.
