I just had a coworker bring in his early 90's Ford F150 four wheel drive into the shop and jack up the front end by putting the jack under the front frame crossmember. This caused the front axle to hang by the suspension and the front drive shaft to extend out at the slip-yolk.
Well when he let it down the slip-yolk didn't slide back in and put all the pressure on the transfere case and thus cracking the case.
I just thought I'd pass this bit of info on to others and hope it will save you some money.
