Jiles said: (quoted from post at 15:53:23 02/10/09) A lot of breakins have happened to some friends and relatives so I bought a Wireless Home Security System for my home and shop. Do any of you have a Home Security System installed in your home or shop or considering one?
Prewired my house for an alarm system when it was built 20+ yrs ago. Installed it myself for under $400 at the time. Wired every door, window including basement windows. I did not opt for the monitoring system. Figured a thief could cut the phone lines. Just a couple of LOUD sirens and since I live in a subdivision, I figure no thief will stick around to see if someone called the cops. A lot of past break-ins in our sub were at night when everyone was upstairs sleeping. When I set the alarm at nite, I have a comfortable feeling that I won't wake up in the middle of the nite with a guy standing over me.
Next house will have a video system in addition to an alarm system. Interesting comment about the b/w vs color from Jim. Didn't know that. Have to check the local laws regarding that.
