There were more than a few of these combinations in central Indiana back in the late 50's and early 60's. I remember seeing some at the IN State Fair back in those days, including a couple of Allis WD45 models, some Farmall Ms, 400's etc, and a few JD tractors. Most featured a special hitch on the front tractor that mounted the front bolster of the second. A couple of them were built with a "basket" on the drawbar of the first into which the front wheels of the second were driven, then chained tightly into place. The driver generally rode the front tractor and controlled the throttle and clutch of the second with levers or hydraulics. There was a discussion of this sometime back on one or two of the forums here, either Tales or IHC-Farmall; the achives might show something. My Dad had a friend who plowed for several years with two Farmall Ms hooked this way. Cheap way to get big horsepower for little investment in a time when good labor was hard to obtain. Lots of farms had these 40-60 hp tractors, and there weren't a lot of options for buying new stuff that would do what two M's pulling together would do!
