Paul, I was wondering whether it would make sense to leave the blades dull, in order to shatter the stumps instead of sharpening them and leaving a clean cut. My theory is that a shattered stump is less likely to puncture a tire or send up new growth, but a dull blade is going to take more power, which translates to working slower. I have the same problem, lots of 1-3 inch alder, vine maple and etc to cut on 2-3 acres.
