As the link below shows we have 2 grades of kerosene. But if you get right down to it we really have about 10 grades of kerosene. All of our grades of jet fuel (jet A; A1; B; JP4; JP5; and JP8) are a kerosene based product with differant flash points and additives. The differance between regular kerosene and jet fuel is the jet fuel is certified white clear. This means if a sample is taken from a delivery and one drop of water; or one speck of dirt is found it will be rejected.
Then you move up into fuel oil. No1 fuel oil is very simular to kerosene but does not meet all the qualifacations. It flows better in cold weather than No 2 fuel oil that is the common diesel we use in trucks. Going up from here fuel oil goes up to grade 6. Grade 3 is rare and grade 4/5 is a blend of grade 6 and 2 to meet differant coustermor demands. All of these grades above grade 2 is for heavy industrial use in such things as boilers. All the grades above come in differant forms of sulfur content.
Then if you jump over to the gas side we have the common grades of gas everyone knows and a high octane certified clean gas called avgas. This is used in gas operated planes and is blue in color or was last time I saw it years ago.
