Good try Lanse! Almost correct. There is less air at altitude, but higher compression is needed not lower. All pistons Fire Crater, and others stick out above the deck of the cylinder. Taing up space in the combustion chamber. For lower compression (distillate) the combustion chamber was enlarged with different valves. As far as I know, on Gas farmalls none had depressions in them, they were flat topped or domed. JimN
