I can't say I'm a fan of the Earned Income Credit, but I believe part of the rationale is to get people "into the system". In other words, if you've been filing EITC, once you start making real money the IRS knows who you are and where you are, so it's much easier to collect taxes from you.
I know it's monkey math and funny money but still..... He's a reserve and also a Government employee. I make about the same +/- a few bucks as him on the regular job. He drags in a whole bunch of extra bucks on the reserve side by going to training and schools (which also dumps his workload on the rest of us) etc. While I won't accept over time pay cause it costs me money. Just seems like I'm being penalized for wearing a condom. He's not the only one doing it or something like it, just the only one I have to listen to.
