B'cow - I've had the same problems with a 12 HP Kohler in a Cub Cadet. Could be the fuel pump, but before replacing here's a few things to check: 1 - Make sure the vent in the gas cap is not plugged - try loosening the cap when it begins to lose power and see if the problem goes away. 2 - Try a different brand of gas. Around here, Mobil seems to work best - the cheap Sunoco is worst. Also gas that was purchased in the winter is more volatile and subject to vapor lock in hot weather. So if you're using gas you bought in December, set it aside and go buy some fresh. 3 - Make sure the sediment bowl (or fuel filter) and lines are clear. Then disconnect the fuel line at the carb, remove the coil wire, aim the fuel line into a mayonnaise jar or something and crank the motor. You should get a good squirt of gas every 2nd crank revolution if everything is OK. If not, suspect a bad fuel pump. 4 - Check for a failing head gasket. I've found under extended hard use the Kohler tends to leak around the head after a couple hundred hours of running. Symptoms are loss of power when hot, accompanied by a "chirping" sound while starting or under heavy load. Good luck!

Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
