I'm going down the same road, as we speak, and have come up with the AC-B and C model as a good choice. No 3 pt hitch but perfect for a belly mower. Woods makes one for it and it runs fine off of a belt pulley that mounts on the PTO shaft. The other "little tractors" (JD-A, Farmall Cub, etc.) are also fine choices. I'm not stuck on one brand but got a deal on some great little AC's. The little Alice tractors are cheap, available and have a good supply of available parts. You can add electric start to any of the 'B' or 'C' models if the one you find doesn't have it. These little Alice's are light and agile, making them a good choice for a dedicated mower. They're cheap, reliable and look great as you mow your yard. The wide front is stable as far as a tractor goes but if you have any hills that need mowing, get a sheet metal, ground hugging, riding lawn mower and save the funeral bills. Ag tractors are designed for fields, not hills. Many are better at hills than some but none belong there. To lighten the compaction problem, run turf tires. Those wide diamond pattern tires can just about run over your foot and not hurt. You sure won't hurt your drain field with those. I'm picking up 5 of the "little Alice" tractors this weekend and will be starting one of the 'B' or 'C' models toward it's lawn mower designation, this winter. Good luck.

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
