It is the forum software that causes the problem.
On the classic side you are allowed to post a reply to either the main question OR you can post a reply to one of the replys already there by choosing what button you click on.
On the modern side it does not matter who you reply to your post will always show up as a reply to the main question because it just gets added to the bottom of the list.
