The SoS was a good thing in it's day, actually pretty reliable. However, all trannies wear out and need to be repaired. These tractors are what, 40 years plus old????? If someone is selling an SoS, you just have to assume they are getting rid of one with a bad tranny. SoS machines sell for about 1/2 the value of a similar 5-speed machine. The SoS has 3 times as many parts in it - 3 times the cost to repair, & 3 times as much stuff for the mechanic to carefully adjust. Well, you do the math. :) You are buying what will be an expensive repair some day, sooner or later. If you happen to find one that really is in good condition, they work good. I would not plan on using one for heavy plowing, or tractor pulls, etc. --->Paul
