I have charged $25/acre to prepare and plant, with one pass cultivation before planting, but would make too passes if necessary. This would not include plowing which would be an additional charge. He pays for the imputs which are usually seed, fertilizer and chemicals. He also pays for all custom applications of fertilizer/chemicals, but includes fertilizer with planting if desired. Travel wouldn't be a consideration if he was within 5 or 6 miles, unless it was just a small patch, such as less than 10 acres. Also charged $25/acre for harvest which included hauling 5 miles to elevator.
