Quality usually dictates price, you get what you pay for. If you are going to have vee belt drive, then a cast iron pump,with roller bearings will take the side load better than an aluminum one with bushings. (Most ALL aluminum pumps have bushings, not bearings).For direct shaft to shaft drive, then allignment is critical, andmost brands will do Ok with good filtration--a suction screen, and 10 micron PROPERLY SIZED return line filter. My splitter has a 14 HP, 2 cyl Wisconsin, a 5 inch bore cylinder, with a 3-1/3 inch rod and a Vickers V20 vane pump. The control valve has 1 inch inlet and outlets and 3/4 work ports, and the return line filter is rated 30 gals per min. Suction line is 1 inch, all others are 3/4 inch 2 wire hoses. Larger hoses, valve, and filter give less restriction, thus better flow & speed.
