We've had an out door wood burning boiler for over 10 years now, It's paid for it self more then once, I only use it for the winter and it's all the heat we need for home / garage and hot water. I never split wood, I use the saw to cut it up in chunks big enough to put in the boiler, small chucks burn faster then big chucks, Fire Places are a big waste of heat, wood burners in the home need filling about every 4 hours, but an out door boiler is the key to heat if you have the wood.
