Leon: I've taken out maybe 75 plus stumps around new home construction. These are mature hardwoods and they can be a real pain. Can you UNDER-cut the roots befor cutting the tree down? The tree can be pushed over which will pull the stump much easier since the weight and leverage of the standing tree does the work. That if a fact for sure. A backhoe will work good at undercutting the roots. Rock the standing tree well and let the momentum do the work. harvey
