I've got an old Lowes(MTD) tiller, 1993 model, that's been a real good tiller. But it's time for a carb rebuild, new muffler, new pull rope, and a new set of tines(old ones are pretty much non existent at this point, they have to be replaced). The cheapest I can find tines(single tine blade, no nuts and bolts) online is $190 shipped. So by the time I'm finished, I'm gonna have well over $200 in fixing this old tiller up.
Priced new ones, and the MTD's (Cub Cadet, Troy Built, Huskee, Craftsman), and Husqvarna's are all in the $600 to $800 range, with the $800 range tillers probably being about equal to the old Lowes tiller I have now(forward and reverse gear, dual direction tines). So question is, what's the best thing to do?? My old Lowes tiller has a plain jane Briggs 5hp motor, just wonder how much life the motor actaully has and if it and the gear box on the old tiller is worth the $200+ investment. Appreicate any suggestions...

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
