When disconnecting your battery cables disconnect your ground cable first. This is the one that goes to the vehicle frame. I'm not talking neg. or pos. I mean the ground. I don't know if you have a neg ground or pos ground vehicle.
When you hook them back up hook the ground up last. This will lower the possibility of creating any sparks.
If you disconnect the hot wire first you run a chance of the wrench touching the frame of the vehicle some where and the hot post at the same time creating a spark and turning your wrench red hot in an instant. Very dangerous!
Most people say it doesn't matter which cable you disconnect first, but they haven't given it much thought then either.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
