Dug G & Tim W, The Cutout is used to connect the Battery to the Generator Field Windings while the egine is running and any regulation is provided externally. I don't recall what the SC uses for regulation. Usually there is a Resistor associated with the Light Switch. This is the case of IHC and my Massey Harris. When you start the engine, the Generator produces a small output which closes the contacts of the Cutout Relay and connects the Battery to the Generator. When the engine stops, these contacts open and disconnect the Battery. A Voltage Regulator has a set of contacts which also provide this Cutout function. Another set of contacts perform the regulation function buy controlling the Field current. Usually the resistor used for regulation is mounted on the bottom of the Voltage Regulator. Kent
