Just went through that myself. Get it fixed right away. You should check to make sure that the bolts that hold the starter in place are very secure. Mine had gradualy stripped/rusted and the starter was moving slightly every time I started it. The result was that the post broke from where it was soldered. Sounds like yours might have the same trouble. If that post is loose...it probably has been subjected to some wigling and wagling around, wich means the soldered (actually brazed I think) connection is probably workhardened and ready to break. I tried to resolder mine...gun would not work, torch melted shielding...etc. After my "repair" I had to buy a rebuilt starter.
