I assume that you are talking about the lip on the top. Yes it will need to be fit for the right height or you will have the same problem as before. You are talking about the counterbore most Caterpillar dealers can do it and the tool can be bought if you want to go that route. If there is no counterbore now it will have to be cut in. There are specs for that so the head and block fit right and still give the proper crush on the head gasket. Machine shops worth their salt can do this with a boring mill also.
