The big thing is that you can see larger chunks of crud or especially any water that might be present. An in-line fuel filter is still a good investment downstream of the sediment bulb. The other thing they have going for them is they usually have a shut-off valve on them which is good to use if you're gonna let the tractor sit for more than an hour or so. Avoids hydraulicing the engine if the carb float valve should leak. Most farm supply stores have them or can get them. They all leak eventually but I think they're worth putting up with.
