Lanz Bulldogs don't use ignition papers or cartridges to start. They use a hot bowl which is heated with a blow lamp. The english Field Marshall tractor uses these devices, the two tractors can be confused as they are both single cylinder machines (I have one of each plus an Australian made copy called a McDonald Imperial). Ignition papers are easily made by soaking blotting paper in a solution of saltptre (sodium nitrate)and water. Then simply dry the blotting paper out and cut to required size. It may require a bit of experimenting to get the mixture right. The paper should sizzle slightly with a red glow. Cartridges are a different story. I have made them for my Field Marshall tractor but had to chase down a recipe from somewhere, which involves two separate charges of fast and slow burning powder in a 12 gauge cartridge. I think the originals used cordite. This is definatelly one NOT to experiment with as the results can be serious. It depends what engine you require the cartridges for. There are a few firms in Australia here that will make them up. Any more questions then drop me a line. cheers.

I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
