We've had 2 Longs, a 1973 445 (45 hp) and a 1992 (?) 2610 (62 hp) and have had really good luck with both of them. They aren't made like a Deere, like the plastic instrument panel is pretty cheap but they were otherwise good tractors. We still have the 2610 and the only problem I've had with it is when my father runs it out of fuel and I have to bleed it for him! I've also used a Belarus, and I agree with your assessment of them but I'd put our Long way above them. Not a Deere, but certainly not a Belarus... Maybe close to a Massey-Ferguson! They are based in NC and are assembled there or in Louisiana, I believe. The engines are still Fiat, and the engine is probably better quality than the rest of the tractor but all in all they've been pretty good machines. I pull a 14 ft. disk with ours but if it's really digging I can't pull it with the wheels all the way up. A 12 ft is a much better match for it. Kerry Miller Cumby, TX

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
