I heard the same advice as stated below to write all the information and send it in a regigstered letter, but I heard you should send it to YOURSELF. Then, if ever needed, you'd have the dated information there to "prove" when you thought of the idea.
On a side note, I had a couple ideas where I looked into this same thing...first idea was a pair of gloves with magnets sewn into the backside of the hand part, to use to hold staples when fencing, nails, etc. I mentioned the idea to one friend who I KNOW didn't tell anyone, but still, a couple years later I saw the exact same product for sale in a tool flyer....
Second idea I wont say what it was, but I did tons of online searching and never saw a similar product offered for sale. Then I found a website where you could search for patents, and found a very similar item that had been patented way back in the early 1900's.
So, always do as much home research as possible before investing a dime in any new idea. Like the old saying goes, there truly are very few new ideas....

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
