Steve gave you all the need to get it empty...you will usually find quite a bit of gunk in there. these trannies have no filter, and since the fluid is used to run the hydraulics, can get quite contaminated. The port where the dipstick isa good place to clean things, and the PTO shaft slips right out if you unbolt the cover bolts. It takes 5 gallons of fluid to fill it (how convenient!) and most people use either GL-1 (not GL-5) 80 or 90 Weight gear oil, or the 134 type combination fluid. I've found the GL-1 at Walmart for 19 bucks for a five gallon can. If you go with 134 type combo stuff, and your axle seals aren't up to snuff, you'll know it quick. But if you have good seals, and you plan on using this tractor in the winter, that is the way to go. The stuff is thinner, so your lift will work better on thoe real cold days. Take care Steve
