One power company here in ND is expermenting with using wind generators(we have lots of wind ;-), on good wind sites that are too far from distribution lines. Using wind to turn water into hydrogen works pretty well, but storing enough compressed hydrogen on a tractor or truck(thats what their using) to get any practical range out of it is still a problem.
There is also some work being done to use surplus wind generated power in the production of AA fertilizer. Good things will come given time to get it right.
