I've got a couple of nickle-plated whistles that my dad had on his model "A" back in the 30's I also still have the butterfly valve he made in his high school shop class. It's a simple 'Y' with one pipe basically inline and the other off at a 45 degree angle. Inside he made a steel diverter plate mounted on a shaft about 1/4" diameter and is mounted through a couple steel bushings welded to the outside of the main pipe. A steel lever arm about 3" long on the end of the arm completed the setup. He used a flexible throttle cable to run things. Simple but effective. He tells stories about how they used to drive down by the trainyard.. His buddy had a large bell and would start ringing it.. my dad would blow the whistle a couple times and the switchman would come running out of his shack. Great fun until the switchman got wise to it. bbott
