Bill is right about moisture... Most 'adobe' problems are related to water control and drainage in combination with your soil type. Soil saturation followed by drying results in the 'hard as a brick' condition you described. A thought... You might dig a test hole down a couple feet and see if you've got a hardpan thats developed down below your plowing level. Repeated 'shallow' plowings year after year, cattle grazing etc. can create such a hardpan. It blocks your drainage and will cause the soil to saturate. If you have a hardpan, a 'subsoiler' (deep plow) is called for to break it up. Also, your regional AG agency will usually do a soil analysis for you and give you a report on what soil type, mineral content etc. you've got. Off the top... Your solutions are: 1) better drainage 2) modifying your soil 3) watching your moisture on tillage H.T.H. bbott

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
